چکیده

A facile and efficient approach to manufacturing optical devices with a plane graphene-coupled microfiber structure is proposed—attaching the onto monolayer graphene-coated polydimethylsiloxane substrate. Such exhibit strong light–graphene interaction via evanescent fields of guided light in microfibers show evident polarization polarization-dependent saturable absorption effect. When graphene propagation distance 2.5 mm, diameter 3.9 μm, extinction ratio can reach up 31.0 dB wavelength at 1550 nm. The transmission TM modes could be increased continuously by increasing input power 980 3 10 modulation depths achieved nm pump 15.1 66.1 mW, respectively, which advantageous over unpolarized devices. proposed on efficiently integrate waveguides two-dimensional materials, great potential applications polarizers, all-optical modulators, mode-locked fiber lasers, sensors, especially for all-fiber systems.

The van der Waals interaction

The interaction between charged particles via the Coulomb interaction is one of the most important features in physics and is familiar to any student of the subject. The way in which electrons and protons bind to form the hydrogen atom is also well known and is a staple of any quantum mechanics course. However, less familiar is the interaction between such bound systems at separation R, which i...

Van der Waals versus optical interaction between metal nanoparticles.

We derive closed expressions for the Casimir-Polder potential between metal nanoparticles as well as for the light-induced interaction owing to the gradient force. Within the validity of the dipole approximation, the maximum interaction energy turns out to be proportional to the plasma frequency, and it is comparable to the thermal energy at T=300 K. On the other hand, the light-induced interac...

Resonant enhancement and dissipation in nonequilibrium van der Waals forces.

Dispersion forces between molecules that are in relative motion, coupled to baths at different temperatures, or in excited states, are calculated using a Green function Liouville space expansion that extends the celebrated McLachlan response theory to the nonlinear regime. Our dynamical theory is applicable to systems that may be in any initial nonequilibrium state and that are subject to an ar...

van der Waals forces in density functional theory :

A density functional theory (DFT) that accounts for van der Waals (vdW) interactions in condensed matter, materials physics, chemistry, and biology is reviewed. The insights that led to the construction of the Rutgers–Chalmers van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF) are presented with the aim of giving a historical perspective, while also emphasizing more recent efforts which have sought to i...

van der Waals forces influencing adhesion of cells.

Adhesion molecules, often thought to be acting by a 'lock and key' mechanism, have been thought to control the adhesion of cells. While there is no doubt that a coating of adhesion molecules such as fibronectin on a surface affects cell adhesion, this paper aims to show that such surface contamination is only one factor in the equation. Starting from the baseline idea that van der Waals force i...
